If you thought clinical hypnotherapy might be scary or tricky, perhaps you’d take a moment to allow Joane to reassure you. Think about this. When you’re driving and you suddenly realise you have no idea what you’ve been doing for the last 10 minutes – that’s because you were in a mild hypnotic state. Now that didn’t hurt you, did it!
Hypnosis is a part of everyone’s daily life, whether they realise it or not. Joane is an expert in teaching how to use this gentle but powerful tool to help children and adults make their lives more positive and fulfilling.
The Goulding SleepTalk® process uses techniques which are based on, but different to clinical hypnosis techniques. They are a gentle, non-intrusive process of giving and receiving positive messages which create an atmosphere of love and support.
Joane Goulding provides individual clinical hypnotherapy consultancy services for adults, using hypnotherapy as a support strategy to explore and resolve unwanted behaviours and feelings. Although Joane prefers to use the terms ‘altered state of awareness’ rather than a ‘trance state’, and ‘subconscious’ rather than ‘unconscious’ she agrees in the most part with the definition which follows:
In its website, the British Society of Clinical Hypnotherapy provides a concise explanation of hypnosis. It says:
It may be surprising to many to learn that we experience trance states often during the course of our lives. Even passing into ordinary sleep involves a kind of trance state. The experience of hypnosis is similar: neither asleep nor awake and a little like daydreaming, with a pleasant feeling of deep relaxation behind it all.
Hypnosis is a different state of consciousness which you can naturally enter so that, for therapeutic purposes (hypnotherapy), beneficial corrections may be given directly to your unconscious mind. In this way, hypnosis is an effective way of making contact with our inner (unconscious) self, which is both a reservoir of unrecognised potential and knowledge as well as being the unwitting source of many of our problems.
Realistically no one can be hypnotised against their will and even when hypnotised, a person can still reject any suggestion. Thus hypnotherapy is a state of purposeful co-operation.
What is Hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is using the state of hypnosis to assist with a variety of medical and psychological problems. It is estimated that 85% of people will respond at some level to clinical hypnotherapy. It may even succeed where other more conventional methods of treatment have not produced the desired result.
